Server Systems
Server Systems
Ylem have supplied Server Based Systems since the 1970's.
Server based systems typically consist of one or more servers serving any number of 'thin client' machines throughout your organisation. This ensures a much lower cost of ownership as all of the software runs on the server.

Only the server needs upgrading.
A recent Windows desktop machine  took more than 4 hours to upgrade!  Imagine this over all of your PC's, and the cost implications are significant.

Avoid the wastage of resources.
A typical desktop PC would need to be configured to the largest capacity of the largest application which means that every networked PC would need to be built to this specification.

REDUCING NINE SERVERS TO TWO

When it comes to recommending a Complete Business System for a medium size business you will find that YLEM offer incredible value.    For example for an eighty user system with Mail, File and Print, Application and Database functionality YLEM would recommend a two server Linux solution. One main server and a backup server. The backup normally being on a
remote site giving full disaster recovery as well as normal backup.

You will find that  many Microsoft resellers will recommend an nine server solution for the same eighty user system.

One File and Print Server, two Application servers with fifty users per server, one database server, one Mail server.  You would need an additional four servers for backup. Great for the ‘techies’ to play with and for those who sell hardware, but not necessarily good business sense.

That’s nine servers versus two or
five to one if full redundancy is not required

Bearing in mind that the life of most Linux servers will be five years this means less
disruption for the business as well as the other
obvious economies.

Much more efficient!
Better for the pocket!
Better for the environment!

Intelligent IT— Making sure you don’t spend money on IT you don’t need.

A typical example of savings achieved

A client who has been with us since 1986 has replaced their servers three times in eighteen years. The cost, including upgrades is estimated at £30K. They run twelve terminals. If they had been using desktop PC's with regular hardware and Operating System upgrades, the cost to date could have been well in excess of £100,000.00.
